Wheeler leads Team of the Week after dropping near triple-double
MUNICH (EuroLeague Women) - Erica Wheeler was an inch away from notching a famous triple-double, earning Top Performer honors in Week 9 of the EuroLeague Women Regular Season.
The 27-year-old guard led Nadezhda to their third consecutive victory, as the Russian side followed up last week's thrilling double-overtime win in Prague with a 72-65 success against Bourges Basket. Wheeler delivered an eye-catching performance, stuffing the boxscore with 22 points, 9 assists, 8 rebounds and an efficiency of 33.
Joining her in the backcourt of the Team of the Week is Allie Quigley after netting six triples on route to a joint game-high 25 points in Famila Schio's 80-77 triumph at ZVVZ USK Praha, the Italians' first road win this season.
Dynamo Kursk were successful on the road too, making light work of Carolo Basket, 86-62, to stay undefeated in Group B. Breanna Stewart stole the show once again with an all-action stat line of 27 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals to make the Top Performers for a fifth time.
Over in Group A, reigning champions UMMC Ekaterinburg also moved to 9-0, but struggled on their way to a 69-64 win at CCC Polkowice. Loaded with options, it was Brittney Griner to step up with a big 20 point, 16-rebound double-double as well as 3 blocks.
The frontcourt is completed by Kristine Vitola, who made the lineup for a second straight week, but also had a win to celebrate this time around. Coming off a narrow defeat in Kursk, TTT Riga hosted Hatay BB and pleased their fans with a crushing 87-36 win. Vitola led the way with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists.
