Roundup: Wisla land Radocaj, Girona and BLMA suffer surprise losses

KRAKOW (EuroLeague/EuroCup Women) - Wisla CANPACK have reacted to their injury crisis by inking Serbian playmaker Tamara Radocaj, while Girona and BLMA both slipped up domestically over the weekend.

Wisla CANPACK decide to strengthen

With a 0-4 record in EuroLeague Women and serious injuries for both Jelena Antic and Dominica Owczarzak, Wisla have decided to act by adding Radocaj. An Olympian last year in Rio and EuroBasket Women winner in 2015, she started the season in the French League with Roche Vendee and will now make her debut for the White Star club after the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2019 Qualifiers window.

Despite being short-handed, Wisla are still pushing hard in second spot in the BLK, their latest triumph coming thanks to an explosive 27 points from Leonor Rodriguez in a 75-66 win at home to AZS-UMCS Lublin.

There is still no stopping Artego Bydgoszcz who stretched their flawless record to 8 games by strolling past Gorzow 80-62, while Dragana Stankovic was also named BLK Player of the Month for October.

CCC Polkowice hammered Widzew Lodz 99-69, with Elena Dikeoulakou racking up 21 points, Sleza Wroclaw labored to a 68-57 win against struggling Poznan, Agnieszka Skobel propelled Energa Torun past Ostrova 62-56 with 17 points and Basket 90 Gdynia had an 18-point and 10-rebound double-double from Latvian ace Kristina Vitola to thank for outpacing MKK Siedlce 85-77.

Girona shocked in Liga Femenina

Spar Citylift Girona may be perfect in EuroCup Women, but they have now fallen behind In the race for pole position in the Spanish League after going down 72-66 at IDK Gipuzkoa.

ESBVA-LM waltzed past Tarbes 70-59 and there was also a crushing 68-35 victory for Carolo Basket at home to Mondeville, as Renee Montgomery starred with 19 points. Meanwhile Basket Landes were relieved to scrape past Nantes Reze 68-65.

Yakin Dogu Universitesi show their teeth in Turkey

It’s back to back losses in the Turkish League for Galatasaray after they were beaten 77-71 at home to reigning champions, Yakin Dogu Universitesi. Quanitra Hollingsworth had 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Courtney Vandersloot was typically influential with 16 points and 9 assists.

Vidnoje who beat Dynamo Moscow 73-68 thanks mainly to 22 points from Meighan Simmons. Nadezhda shrugged off their indifferent EuroLeague Women form to win 66-59 at Kazanochka.


Passalacqua Virtus Eirene Ragusa had to endure heartache in Italy as Gesam Gas Lucca squeezed out a 58-56 victory, Umana Reyer Venezia returned to winning ways as Riquna Williams netted 19 points in a big 87-52 triumph against Turin, with Famila Schio fuelled by 19 points and 12 boards from Eva Lisec as they took down Nova Vigarano 76-64.

KSC Szekszard crept past VBW CEKK Cegled 72-67 in Hungary, with all 12 players getting onto the scoresheet for Sopron Basket as they rolled over PEAC-Pecs 89-37 and Tijana Krivacevic accumulated 16 points for CMB Cargo uni Gyor who beat BEAC Ujbuda 76-71.
