Petronyte picks up January MVP honor

MUNICH (Germany) - Gintare Petronyte has been rewarded for an epic month of action and sending Melikgazi Kayseri into the EuroCup Women Quarter-Finals by being crowned MVP for January.

The center produced a pair of towering displays for the Turkish side in their Round of 16 tie against NKA Universitas Pecs to take them into the last eight and extend their dream of winning silverware.

The Lithuanian posted a phenomenal performance efficiency valuation of 36.5 in the month and this was built around her stellar work in the paint and on the glass. She went to work with almost 60 percent floor shooting across both games and that resulted in a superb 23.5 points per game.

It wasn't only scoring where Petronyte turned heads, since she returned a January double-double with an average of 15.0 rebounds per outing - while also handing out an eye-catching four assists per game too.

In the first meeting with Pecs on home soil, she helped Kayseri to a healthy lead in the tie after inspiring a 76-65 success off the back of her contribution of 23 points, 10 boards, 2 assists and 2 blocks.

Then when her team was put under some serious pressure by their opponents in the second leg meeting in Hungary, Petronyte effectively prevented her team from slipping out of the tournament. She starred with a monumental double-double of 24 points and 20 rebounds, as well as 6 assists in a 72-70 defeat as her team advanced to the next phase by nine points on aggregate.
