SZEKSZARD (Hungary) - Final Four hosts KSC Szekszard finished their campaign on a historic high note after they completed a 68-55 success against Carolo Basket in the Third Place Game.
The Hungarian side had dreamed of making the Final and having a tilt at the silverware, so at least made up in some way for missing out by recording their best ever finishing position.
Turning point: In what had been a relatively tight contest, KSC Szekszard snapped it open with a 15-4 run either side of the third and fourth quarter as they turned off the offensive tap of Carolo Basket.
Game heroes: DeWanna Bonner misfired during the Semi-Finals but made up for it and showed her true face with a terrific 25 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Playmaker Agnes Studer also weighed in with an eye-catching 15 points and 6 assists.
Stats don't lie: Carolo Basket spilled the ball 20 times and that led to a valuable 22 points off turnovers for their opponents.
Bottom line: KSC Szekszard had to swallow a bitter pill in the Semi-Finals as they were pipped on their home floor by Reyer Venezia. However, they were able to finish a landmark campaign with a flourish and can reflect on many positives. Meanwhile Carolo Basket came into the Final Four as the underdogs and did little at the tournament to shed the label they were given.
They said: "Our defense didn't work and that was the most important part for us in the game. But we still have a lot of the season left back in France because we still have the French Cup Final and the Play-Offs to come. We will see how it ends. " Carolo Basket guard, Yvonne Turner.
"The Semi-Final was a tough one for me. Probably the worst game I played in my career and I took it very personally. So I really wanted to come out and do well here. The coach prepared us great and we got back to playing some great team basketball like we have done throughout the whole tournament." KSC Szekszard forward, DeWanna Bonner
