Doncic? Giannis? Markkanen? Will the EuroBasket single-tournament scoring record be broken?

BERLIN (Germany) - Four players averaged at least 24 points per game in the Group Phase at FIBA EuroBasket 2022 with three continuing onto Berlin with the chance to add to their tallies.

Giannis Antetokounmpo tops the scoring averages with 29.5 points per game with 118 points across four games after sitting out against Great Britain. The Greek Freak poured in a best of 41 points in a win against Ukraine.

That effort was quickly surpassed by Luka Doncic after he poured in 47 points for the most points in EuroBasket history for 65 years on the way to scoring 133 points at an average of 26.6 points per game in the Group Phase.

Lauri Markkanen is not far behind after racking up 124 points in five games for Finland with multiple 30+ point games produced against Israel and Group D hosts, Czech Republic.

But how far away are they from setting a EuroBasket record?

Well, Nikos Galis accumulated a massive 296 points at FIBA EuroBasket 1987 after leading Greece to the title as the tournament MVP. The Hall of Famer is the clear frontrunner in the history books of the competition with a 58-point gap to second place.

Doncic and Slovenia will take on Belgium as the knockout stages begin on Saturday, while Giannis and Greece go up against Czech Republic and Markkanen's Finland battle Croatia.
