FIBA Esports Open III crowns eight winners in largest-ever edition

MIES (Switzerland) - The latest and largest edition of the FIBA Esports Open saw eight teams crowned champions.

Barbados, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Philippines, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Uruguay were victorious across the six regions, as a total of 60 national teams competed at the FIBA Esports Open III.

For the first time, the North & Central America and Europe Conferences were comprised of two divisions: Current Generation (PS4) and Next Generation (PS5).

Egypt became the second winners of the Africa Conference as they prevented Cote d'Ivoire from defending their title with a 2-1 Finals triumph.

There were two winners in the Europe Conference as Russia overcame Latvia to take the Current Gen title, while Turkey swept Germany in the Next Gen Finals as they backed up their previous victory from December.

Barbados took the Current Gen title in North America Conference with Dominican Republic upsetting USA in the Next Gen Finals with a 2-1 success having finished as runners-up in the group phase.

In the Middle East Conference, Saudi Arabia claimed a third successive title, while Argentina were unable to emulate that feat in the South America Conference as they fell in the Semi-Finals with Uruguay prevailing in the Finals against Brazil.

Philippines ran out convincing winners in the return of the Southeast Asia Conference as they claimed a second title without suffering a defeat.

The popularity of the FIBA Esports Opens is evident with the increasing number of participating teams, with 17 national teams having taken part in the inaugural esports competition last June and then 38 in FIBA Esports Open II.
