Indonesia beat India to clinch last Quarterfinals spot as China claimed win in both Men’s and Women’s to top Group Phase
JAKARTA (Asian Games 2018) – China’s Men’s and Women’s teams won to top their respective Groups. Thailand beat Mongolia and Indonesia sealed the remaining Women’s quarterfinal seat with a win over India.
JAKARTA (Asian Games 2018) – China’s Men’s and Women’s teams won their last games of the qualifying round to top their respective Groups. Thailand beat Mongolia to clinch 3rd in the Women’s Group B, while Indonesia sealed the remaining Women’s quarterfinal seat with a win over India.
China’s Women’s team continued their domination in the tournament with a 123-31 win over Hong Kong, their largest victory so far at the Asian Games 2018. Han Xu had 26 points and 10 rebounds to lead seven double-digits scorers for China. The win seals a 4-0 record for China in Group B and relegates Hong Kong who ends up with a winless 0-4 record.
Thailand clamped down on defense with a 62-39 win over Mongolia to secure the 3rd place spot in Women’s Group B. Mongolia were help to only 22.1% shooting from the floor as Thailand rana away with 39-21 second half. Supira Klanbut and Thidaporn Maihorm scored 11 points apiece for Thailand in the win.
Without much pressure, China’s Men’s team allowed Kazakhstan to keep the game close in the first half before accelerating with a 31-12 third quarter to top Group D with an 83-66 win. Liu Zhixuan led the team with 18 points to go with 5 rebounds and 6 assists.
The biggest game of the day was between Indonesia and India with a spot in the Women’s Quarterfinals on the line. It went down to the wire, with Indonesia coming out victorious on their home turf 69-66.
Indonesia had built up a lead as much as 13 in the third quarter, but India stormed to cut the lead down to two before the final interval. The final quarter was a roller-coaster that saw the lead change 11 times leading up to the final outcome. India’s Stephany Nixon had 18 points and 9 rebounds but lost out to Nathasa Debby Christaline of Indonesia, who had a big game of 21 points and 8 rebounds.
