MIES - FIBA and the International Basketball Foundation (IBF) wish a happy 80th birthday to Manfred Ströher, current treasurer of the IBF.

Since serving in FIBA’s technical commission over 50 years ago (1964-1980), Ströher has been a pillar of FIBA as president of the financial commission (1980-1994) and treasurer of FIBA (1994-2014) but also as a member of the Central Board.

He has written many significant books about basketball, from a history of basketball rules to the biographies of the first two Secretary Generals of FIBA, R. William Jones and Borislav Stankovic.

On top of his involvement with FIBA, the Bad-Kreuznach native is strongly involved in the German Basketball Federation (DBB). He was in charge of referees from 1963 to 1972, Vice-President from 1980 to 1984 and President from 1984 to 1994. Under his presidency the German team won the EuroBasket 1993, so far the only international title of his native country.

For his contribution to basketball, Ströher has been awarded the “Oscar del Basket” an IOC Diploma and the FIBA Order of Merit.
