    Everything set for Puerto Rico’s Wheelchair 3x3 Tournament

    SAN JUAN - The Puerto Rican Wheelchair Basketball Federationin Puerto Rico (FEBASIRU), announced the details of its 3x3 International Tournament which will be held from 13 – 15 May, in the Nilmari Santini

    SAN JUAN - The Puerto Rican Wheelchair Basketball Federationin Puerto Rico (FEBASIRU), announced the details of its 3x3 International Tournament which will be held from 13 – 15 May, in the Nilmari Santini Court in Puerto Rico’s Sports and Recreation Department.

    FEBASIRU’s Project Manager and International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) Committee Member, Dilka J. Benitez, expressed satisfaction in the recognition of Wheelchair Basketball Week in Puerto Rico, that will culminate with the 3x3 tournament.

    "This tournament started in 2010 and over the years has increased in competition days, increases in the number players and teams. Were always grateful for the collaboration of FIBA 3x3 and they being part of this project," said Benitez.

    "It will be a very competitive tournament, with high quality players, as all athletes have been preparing. Will be evaluating talent for the Centrobasket Championship." Said Armando Belaval, of FEBASIRU.

    Meanwhile, the Director of the Sports and Recreation Department, Ramon Orta said: "Sport has to be accessible, it is our duty to make it so. I recognize the work of the FEBASIRU team, the great job the athletes do and I think they have done a great job in the development of the sport in Puerto Rico. My respects to these athletes who enter the competition bravely and worthily represent our country."

    Moreover, Mr. Alberto Garcia, Executive Director of FIBA in the Americas said: "for us in FIBA Americas the development and massification of basketball, in all its aspects, is one of our main goals. It is for this reason that since 2012 we have supported this FEBASIRU initiative, since it creates an additional referral exposure for FIBA 3x3, while offering a competitive alternative for players in wheelchairs.

    "We believe in the work being done by FEBASIRU and we will continue to support their efforts, both domestically and internationally." Added Garcia.

    The tournament will also include Fast Break, Free-throws, and three-pointer competitions and an All-Star Game.
