Twitter’s reactions to Mexico’s victory against USA

Mexico achieved an historic win over the United States, 78-70, at the third phase of the FIBA World Cup Americas Qualifiers.

MEXICO (FIBA Basketball World Cup Americas Qualifiers 2019) — Mexico achieved an historic win over the United States, 78-70, at the third phase of the FIBA World Cup Americas Qualifiers. In a memorable first quarter, where the local team imposed their supremacy at Gimnasio Juan de la Barrera, 31 to 10. They also achieved a 18-0 quarter the last four minutes of the first act, thus leading the first half with a surprising 48-28. It was something unthinkable that made social media explode with the hashtags #12Guerreros, #FIBAWC and #EstaEsMiCasa.

#12Guerreros was gaining steam by the minute until it ended up being #1 trending topic in all of Mexico. These 12 Warriors did not only achieve a victory for the history books, but also took away the undefeated streak of the USA team, while adding very important points that rollover to the second phase of the Qualifiers. The United States had not lost an official FIBA game since 2006, where they fell against Greece —not considering the 2011 Pan American Games where Mexico were able to defeat them for the first time. The Mexicans celebrated their important triumph of being on second place behind the United States (4-1) in Group C alongside Puerto Rico —their rival this Sunday—, with 3 wins and 2 losses.
