Competition History
The FIBA U15 Women's Oceania Cup, which was also known as the FIBA U16 Women's Oceania Championship from 2009 until 2018, has been a significant event in the basketball calendar.
This tournament has provided a platform for young talents from the Oceania region to showcase their skills and gain international experience. Australia have reached the top of the podium at all six versions of the event, including in 2015 when current WNBA player Ezi Magbegor averaged 18 points and 11.2 rebounds each game.
Current Minnesota Lynx WNBA player, Alanna Smith also made her international debut at the 2011 FIBA U16 Women's Oceania Championship.
Since its inception, the championship has seen numerous future stars emerge. For instance, many players who participated in these tournaments have gone on to represent their national teams at higher levels, including the FIBA U17 World Cup and beyond. The FIBA U15 Women's Oceania Cup is now a qualifier to the FIBA U16 Women's Asia Cup with the top two team progressing, while the third and fourth placed teams qualify through to the the FIBA U16 Women's Asia Cup - Division B.
