Closely contested battle for third between Alahli SC and Flamengo

While Unicaja and NBA G League United were warming up for the Final, the remaining four teams were in action in Singapore.

SINGAPORE (Singapore) - The 35th edition of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup saw representatives from six different continents take the court in Singapore. While teams from Europe and North America were gearing up for the Final, the Classification Games were also played on Sunday.

    Third-Place Game

In 2022, the African teams first joined the FIBA Intercontinental Cup. In 2025, Alahli SC went down in history books as the first team from the continent to finish on podium.

The Basketball Africa League champions went back-and-forth with Flamengo in the Third-Place Game, erasing a 10-point deficit, turning it into a five-point surplus, only to see it evaporate again and go down the wire.

In the closing minutes, coach Mohamed Elkerdany went to Jean-Jacques Boissy, and the guard delivered, hitting a big three-pointer to make it a five-point game with just under two minutes to play.

Another big performance by Jean-Jacques Boissy this summer

It was enough to break Flamengo's resistance and win the game 91-82.

The team from Libya had only five scorers on the day, but all of them scored 16 or more. Makur Maker (11 rebounds) and Ivan Almeida scored 20 points each, Ismael Romero had 18 points and 11 rebounds, Boissy also scored 17, while Marcos Knight finished with 16 and 9 rebounds.

Flamengo were on fire from outside the arc early on, but could not buy a bucket when it mattered most.

Gui Deodato and Markeith Cummings had 14 points apiece, Alexey Borges collected 13 with 7 assists, Wesley Ferreira and Alex Negrete combined for 21 off the bench.

    Classification Game 5-6

Coming in as the reigning NBL champions, Australia's Illawarra Hawks hoped they could become the first team from the nation to reach the Final.

However, with two heartbreaking defeats in Group B, they found themselves in the battle for fifth on the final day of action.

There were no alarms and no surprises for coach Justin Tatum and his men. The Hawks took down BCL Asia champions Utsunomiya Brex 93-69 to finish fifth.

JaQuori McLaughlin led the scoring with 15 points in 18 minutes, Harry Froling was right next to him with 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists, Luca Yates scored 13, while Kobe McDowell-White added 12 of his own to the mix.

Even without JaVale McGee, Tyler Harvey and Jonah Bolden, the Australian champs were just too strong for the team from Japan.

Yudai Ishikawa knocked down five triples in 15 minutes to finish with 15 points. Even though they finished sixth, Utsunomiya Brex still made history, becoming the first team from Japan to appear in the FIBA Intercontinental Cup.
