Competition System

    Qualifiers Stage

    Round Robin Format

The 19 teams that officially registered to participate in eFIBA Europe are allocated into four groups:

    - Group A (5 teams) - Group B (5 teams) - Group C (5 teams) - Group D (4 teams)

Teams were allocated to each group through a random draw, with four exceptions: Türkiye, Portugal, France and Germany, as the top four teams from the previous eFIBA Europe edition, were placed in separate groups.

During the Qualifiers Stage, each team will play against all other teams in its group in a home-and-away round robin format.

At the conclusion of this stage, sixteen teams will advance to the Final Stage. All teams that do not finish last in their respective groups will automatically qualify for the next stage. The teams finishing last in each group will compete in a play-off to determine the final advancing team.

The winner of the play-off will progress to the Qualifiers Stage, while the remaining three teams will be eliminated. The play-off matches between the last-ranked teams will be played in a Best-of-1 format.

A total of 16 teams advance from the Qualifiers Stage and enter the Swiss Format phase.

    HOW DOES EUROPE FINALS WORK?

    Competition Structure

The European Finals consist of two competition phases:

    1. Swiss Format Phase

    2. Play-Off Bracket Phase

    Swiss Format Phase

The Swiss format is a widely used esports competition system in which teams only face opponents with the same win–loss record.

Across five rounds, 8 teams will qualify for the Play-Offs, and 8 teams will be eliminated. Pairings for each round (after Round 1) are determined by a draw among teams with the same record.

    Round Structure

    Round 1 – Best of 1 (Bo1)

Teams are paired based on their “Qualifiers” group-stage placements:

    - Group A teams vs Group C teams - Group B teams vs Group D teams

    Matchups follow seeding logic:

    - #1 vs #4 - #2 vs #3

    Round 2 – Best of 1 (Bo1)

    - The 8 Round 1 winners play against each other (1–0 record). - The 8 Round 1 losers play against each other (0–1 record).

This round features games between teams with identical records (1–0 and 0–1).

    Round 3 – Bo1 or Bo2 (Advancement/Elimination Games)

This is the first round where teams can qualify for Play-Offs or be eliminated.

    • 2–0 teams play each other in (Bo2) to determine Play-Off qualifiers.

    • 0–2 teams play each other in Bo2 to determine eliminated teams.

    • 1–1 teams play Bo1 to determine whether they move to a qualification game or an elimination game in Round 4.

    Round 4 – Best of 2 (Bo2) – Advancement/Elimination Game Only

    In this round:

    - 3 teams qualify for Play-Offs - 3 teams are eliminated

    Matchups:

    - Six teams with a 2–1 record play Bo2 games. Winners qualify for Play-Offs. -Six teams with a 1–2 record play Bo2 games. Losers are eliminated.

    Round 5 – Best of 2 (Bo2) – Final Qualification Round

    - The remaining six teams with a 2–2 record compete in Bo2 games. - Three winners qualify for the Play-Offs - Three losers are eliminated

    Play-Off Bracket Phase

    Play-Off Phase Structure

The 8 teams qualified from the Swiss Format will advance to a standard single-elimination Play-Off bracket consisting of three rounds:

    1. Quarter-Finals

    2. Semi-Finals

    3. Grand Final

The two teams reaching the Grand Final in Europe will qualify for the eFIBA World Finals in Qatar.

All Play-Off games will be played in a Best of 3 (Bo3) format.

Play-Off Seeding and Pairings – Buchholz System

To determine the Play-Off seeding and bracket structure, the Buchholz System will be used to calculate final Swiss rankings.

The Buchholz System provides a more accurate ranking by taking into account the strength of opponents faced during the Swiss Format. Teams are ranked not only by their win–loss record but also by the cumulative performance of their opponents.

Ranking criteria will be applied as follows:

    - Teams advancing with a 3–0 record (2 teams) - Teams advancing with a 3–1 record (3 teams) - Teams advancing with a 3–2 record (3 teams)

Within each record group, teams will be ranked according to the Buchholz score of their opponents, ensuring higher seeding for teams that faced stronger competition.
