What are the statistical standouts from Round 1?

ULAANBAATAR (Mongolia) - There you have it! Round 1 of the Basketball Champions League Asia (BCL Asia) Qualifiers is done and dusted with the four teams advancing to Round 2 confirmed.

Now that we have a moment before the next stage of the competition tips off from April 23-25 in Indonesia, let's take a look back at some of the top performers, stats-wise, from Round 1.

Passing the Century-mark

Only one player scored over 100 points in Round 1. Hats off to Brandone Francis for lighting it up to the tune of 25.8 points for a total of 103 points per game. The Dominican winger was not just chucking it for Prawira Harum Bandung either, putting up his points efficiently with shooting splits of 50.7 percent from the field, 35.3 percent from the three-point line, and 84.4 percent from the charity stripe.

Francis' high in this tournament was his 31 points against NS Matrix Deers. It was also tied (with Deers' Taishaun Johnson in the same game) for the most amount of points scored in a single game in regulation.

If you're looking for the most amount of points scored in a single game overall, those honors go to Hi-Tech Basketball Club's Freddie Lish and Ulaanbaatar Xac Bronco's Divine Myles who both dropped 34 points in the classic overtime clash.

Lockdown Defense

The cliché "Defense wins championships" doesn't exactly fit here just yet as we're just at the end of Round 1, but we can say "Defense wins your group" at least.

Both Hong Kong Eastern and Pelita Jaya finished Round 1 at the top of their groups. They also were the two teams that allowed the least amount of points to their opponents as well, separated by only 2 points.

Pelita Jaya had the advantage of that slight two-point advantage, but Eastern held their opponents to a lower field-goal shooting percentage at only 38.7 percent. No other team allowed lower than 40 percent.

Interestingly, while NS Matrix allowed 90.5 points per game (5th), they led all teams in opponent three-point field-goal percentage at 26.6 - the only team to allow less than 30 percent.

Speed is the name of the Game

Aside from making it tough for opponents to score, the undefeated Pelita Jaya always made sure to make their opponents pay for their misses, too. The Indonesia Basketball League (IBL) powerhouse led all teams in fastbreak points, being the only club to reach 20.0 of such points per game.

All the way from Bandung

Prawira Harum Bandung were the best three-point shooting team in the field. They were tied at 42 with Hi-Tech for most made three-pointers but led all teams with a 42.9 percent three-point shooting clip while none of the other teams were able to shoot higher than 39 percent.

Shouldering the majority of that sharpshooting is Indonesia national team breakout star Yudha Saputera. The 25-year-old led all players with 15 made three-pointers (as only one of two players to make more than 10) and did so on only 26 attempts, accounting for a shooting clip of 57.7 percent - third among all qualified players.

Robbin' Hood

What a run that was by Taishaun Johnson. Knocking down the free-throws to ice the game against Hi-Tech was nice, but the 29-year-old had been ballin' through the entire competition nonetheless. Aside from averaging 21.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, he also led Round 1 with 25 assists and 6.3 assists per game.

4. Dominic Gilbert (HKE)‎ 3 16 5.3
5. Chris Mclaughlin (HKE)‎ 3 15 5.0

His personal-high was 9 dimes in the deciding game against Hi-Tech, though the most amount of assists in a single game among all players was actually by Dominic Gilbert. Hong Kong Eastern's star had 10 assists in their game against Bishrelt Metal, flirting with a triple-double after getting 11 points and 8 boards.

While Johnson was the most generous on offense, he was also the most cunning on defense as well. With 14 steals and an average of 3.5 per game, the Deers' guard nearly doubled the total of Divine Myles (8 steals) who was second in line.

No surprise then that he was one of the four players to record a single-game high of 4 steals in Round 1, doing so on three different occasions.

Clean-up Crew

Hi-Tech Basketball Club were the most productive offensive team with 102.5 points per game - the only team to average over 100. A key factor to that scoring output was they shot 60.1 percent from the two-point range.

And the key fact for that was that they had Kevin Allen who led all players with 5.0 offensive boards per game.

He also led all players with 12.3 rebounds per game, being only one of two players alongside Chris McLaughlin (11.3 boards per contest) to average double-digits in rounds.

Allen also led the field in Player Efficiency, averaging 28.0 per game. He holds the top two highest EFF single-game outputs with 46.0 against the Broncos and 39.0 against Adroit.

Pelita Jaya fan favorite Justin Brownlee was just behind with an average EFF of 26.7 per game, while notching his high of 38.0 EFF against the Broncos as well.

Pouring out one here for the Broncos. The hometown league champions put on a show for their faithful fans, never giving up until the final seconds, and taking in heart-breaking losses.

But they made sure to go out with a bang, leading all teams in field-goal percentage at nearly 50 percent.
