Everything you need to know: BCL Asia Qualifiers Round 1

BEIRUT (Lebanon) - The first-ever Basketball Champions League Asia (BCL Asia) Qualifiers will soon be upon us and it is expected to be an exciting stretch of four days for Round 1.

As the teams compete to keep their hopes of qualifying for Asia's flagship club competition alive, fans can be sure that the sparks will fly from start to finish.

What is BCL Asia?

Basketball Champions League Asia (BCL Asia) is Asia's top-tier club competition, making its debut this year. The competition was formerly known as FIBA Asia Champions Cup before being renamed and rebranded early 2024 in line with competitions in Europe and Americas, and has been the flagship club competition in Asia since 1981.


What is the BCL Asia Qualifiers?

The BCL Asia Qualifiers is one of the routes for teams to qualify for BCL Asia.

How many rounds are there in the BCL Asia Qualifiers?

There will be two rounds of the BCL Asia Qualifiers, Round 1 and Round 2, set to be played in different locations in April 2024.

Who are the teams competing?

There will be eight teams from East and South East Asia participating in the BCL Asia Qualifiers.

The teams, in alphabetical order, are Adroit Club (SGP), Bishrelt Metal (MGL), Hi-Tech Basketball Club (THA), Hong Kong Eastern Basketball Team (HKG), NS Matrix Deers (MAS), Pelita Jaya Basketball (INA), Prawira Harum Bandung (INA), and Ulaanbaatar Xac Broncos (MGL).

How did the teams get here?

Each of the teams was either champions or finalists of the recent season of their domestic leagues in their respective countries. This earned them their spot to compete for a chance at becoming one of the "Champions" in the Basketball Champions League Asia.

What is the competition format?

Teams in Round 1 are divided into two groups of four according to their National Teams’ ranking in the FIBA World Ranking Men, presented by NIKE. Teams in the same group will play against each other in a round-robin format.

The top team from each group will advance to Round 2, while teams finishing second and third in each group will go head-to-head in the Qualification to Round 2 phase to determine the remaining two spots for Round 2.

When are the Round 1 Games?

Round 1 is scheduled to be from April 3-7. The Group Phase is from April 3-6 with a rest day on April 5.

Qualification to Round 2 is played on April 7.

Where are the Round 1 Games?

Round 1 will be played in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia at the UG Arena. The city and the arena has recently hosted games in both windows of the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Pre-Qualifiers as well as the home game for Mongolia in Window 1 of the Asia Cup 2025 Qualifiers.

What is next?

With the conclusion of Round 1, the four qualified teams will prepare for Round 2.

When is Round 2?

Round 2 is scheduled to be from April 23-26.

Where is Round 2?

Round 2 will be played in Jakarta.

What is the competition format?

The four qualified teams will play in a single-round robin format. Their records from Round 1 will not carry over to Round 2. The top two clubs will qualify for the Basketball Champions League Asia (BCL Asia).
