Hebraica Macabi hold off Boca Jrs for first win of Season 5

RIO DE JANEIRO (Brazil) – After dropping their first game in overtime, Hebraica Macabi rebounded on Thursday night for a 69-62 win over Boca Jrs.

Hebraica Macabi led the game for all but 14 seconds, but Boca Jrs hung around long enough to keep the pressure on and even grabbed a brief lead in the fourth quarter. A 13-4 run by Hebraica Macabi quickly helped them pull away and put the game out of reach.

Jordan Williams (game-high 22 points, 4 rebounds, 7-of-13 FG), Luciano Parodi (19 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists) and Ernesto Oglivie (14 points, 12 rebounds, 6-of-9 FG) accounted for 55 of the team’s 69 points.

Rebounds were a key factor, as Hebraica Macabi had a 42-27 advantage on the glass including a 12-5 edge in offensive rebounds. Those extra chances led to 17 second chance points for Hebraica Macabi, while Boca Jrs only had 6 such points.

Boca Jrs had some balanced scoring with four players scoring in double figures, but the four combined to shoot 15-of-39 from the field and only 5-of-21 from three-point range.

Hebraica Macabi improve to 1-1, while Boca Jrs fall to 0-1 in Group C. Hebraica Macabi continue their BCLA season on January 17, while Boca Jrs return to action on Friday against Flamengo (1-0).
