OKINAWA (Japan) - Germany moved up in the FIBA Basketball World Cup record books following a remarkable shooting from beyond the arc to take down Georgia, Friday night.
Only shooting 29.5-percent from deep in their first three games of the ongoing 2023 competitions, Germany nailed 20 of their 35 triples toward the 100-73 victory, in the process moving one win away from reaching the Final Phase to be held in Manila next week.
It was the second-most threes made by a team in a World Cup game, eclipsing the 19 made by the United States twice - against Russia and Puerto Rico - in the 1994 championships in Canada.
Germany are the only other team to hit at least 20 threes in a World Cup match aside from Canada. The North Americans made 24 versus Jordan in the 2019 edition in China.
