Tunisia's FIBA AfroBasket 2017 heroes called up for World Cup Qualifiers

LISBON (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Qualifiers) - Tunisia on Wednesday began their FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Qualifiers preparation in Portugal with a 15-man preliminary squad.

While head coach Mario Palma called up the entire roster that won the FIBA AfroBasket 2017 crown two months ago on home soil, the Portuguese-Angolan play-caller added to the list Ahmed Addami, Skander Bhouri and Aymen Bouzid.

The North Africans will continue their training camp in the South European country until November 20, before they travel to the Cameroonian capital of Yaounde, where - from November 24-26 - they will face Group A opposition Guinea, Chad and the host nation.

The four-team tournament marks Tunisia's first official competition since they won their second continental title last September.

Under FIBA's New Competition System, the African Qualifiers for the World Cup will be played in two stages. The top three teams from each of the four groups (A, B, C and D) in the first round will advance to the decisive 12-team second round. This second stage will see national teams play home-and-away games with the top two teams from each group and the best 3rd-place team booking their places for FIBA's flagship event, taking place from August 31 to September 15, 2019.
