Bracket confirmed for Quarter-Finals of FIBA Asia Cup 2022

JAKARTA (Indonesia) - The bracket for the Quarter-Finals of the FIBA Asia Cup 2022 was confirmed following the conclusion of the Qualification to Quarter-Finals on Tuesday, with New Zealand and Japan completing the picture. 

New Zealand were the first team to claim their Quarter-Finals spot today, handily beating Syria 97-58. This sets up a rematch of the third-place game from Asia Cup 2017 in the Quarter-Finals as the Tall Blacks will now face Korea.

Japan later followed to complete the Quarter-Finals bracket with a 102-81 win over the Philippines. The win breaks Japan's seven-game losing streak to the Philippines and is also the first win for in the Asia Cup over the Philippines since 2003. The Akatsuki Five will proceed to face Australia who they have encountered many times over the recent years.

The two other Quarter-Final pairings were confirmed on Monday.

China crushed the dreams of Indonesia for advancing further in the Asia Cup and securing a guaranteed spot at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 as hosts to advance match up with Lebanon.

Jordan broke the hearts of Chinese Taipei on a buzzer-beating game-winner and will face Iran in the next stage. 

The first four spot in the Quarter-Finals were claimed by Korea, Lebanon, Australia, and Iran as the first-placed teams in their groups during the Group Phase. 

Having won the Asia Cup in 2017, Australia stand to the be the first back-to-back Asia Cup champions since Iran in 2007 and 2009. The Boomers have still yet to lose a game in a FIBA Asia Cup competition.

FIBA
