Astana thump Al Ahli and march on to Semi-Finals
CHENZHOU (FIBA Asia Champions Cup 2017) - BC Astana entered the FIBA Asia Champions Cup 2017 Semi-Finals with a 83-53 thumping of Al Ahli Dubai.
The Kazakhstan side wasted no time in imposing their will against the Emiratis. Astana raced to a 22-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back, completely dominating Al Ahli throughout the game. Astana's playmaking was in prime form here as they had 17 assists compared to just 9 for Al Ahli. Coach Konstatinos Flevarakis's squad also just had their way in the paint, outscoring the Emiratis, 40-20.
Justin Carter was ultra efficient in this game, scoring 17 points in only 18 minutes along with 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. Denis Degtyarev also stepped up, putting up 14 points and 8 rebounds.
Qais Omar Al Shabebi was held to just 12 points in this matchup, but it was Khalifa Salem who really shone, scoring 17 points but making just 5 of his 20 field goals.
BC Astana await the winner of the China Kashgar versus Chooks-To-Go contest in the Semi-Finals, while Al Ahli will face the losing squad.
