Elizabeth Jovita is happy making her country proud

BANGKOK, Thailand (FIBA Asia U18 Championship for Women 2016)- Still unbeaten in the level II competitions, team Indonesia have been enjoying their time on court during the first three days of the FIBA Asia U18 Championship for Women. The team made a big statement on the very first day of the tournament beating Singapore, 75-34, and rival teams have since named them a team to fear.

Team assistant coach, Marlina Herawan, seems to know all that and has worries of her own.

"I have enough confidence in the team to say that we can and we will make it to Level I, but, realistically speaking, the hardest games are yet to come," she said. "Tomorrow we face Hong Kong, and Malaysia the day after."

"We need to make it past them first and then talk about making it to Level I," she added.

Her team has been remarkable so far, but coach Herawan isn’t fully satisfied.

"They’ve been performing fine so far, but knowing them I know they aren’t giving their maximum yet," she explained. "Making it to Level I requires much more than just playing fine."

An essential part of her remarkable team is Jovita Elizabeth. The 18-year-old has been averaging 18 points per game, making her not only the top scorer of her team, but of the whole tournament so far.

"Being top scorer doesn’t mean much to me," according to Elizabeth. "I’m more focused on helping my team make it as far as possible in the tournament."

The 17-year-old is having a great time in Thailand and enjoying her taste of success.

"I’m here enjoying the game, enjoying the success, all the while making my country proud," she added. "Such a good feeling it is making my country proud."
