Lebanon recall six players from U16 team

BEIRUT (2016 FIBA Asia U18 Championship) - Salim Alaaeddine and Karim Zeinoun have both been named in Lebanon's 17-player preliminary squad for the 2016 FIBA Asia U18 Championship.

Lebanon U18 coach Joe Moujaes recalled six of the 12 players who helped Team Cedar finish sixth at the 2015 FIBA Asia U16 Championship to take part in the U18 event in Tehran from 22-31 July.

Alaaeddine and Zeinoun were noticeable stars in that tournament in Jakarta.

Alaaeddine, who plays for Lebanese First Division Champions Al-Riyadi, finished as the tournament’s second-leading scorer with 23 points per game. Zeinoun, meanwhile, came up third, behind his compatriot Alaaeddine, with 22 points per game.

Eleven of the 17 players listed were not at the 2015 FIBA Asia U16 Championship.

Other players who featured for Lebanon at the U16 continental event in Jakarta were: Charbel Saad, Joe Ziade, Mohamad Captan and Nady Hachem.

As part of their preparation for the Championship, Lebanon will travel to Egypt to participate in the Youth Arab Basketball Championship which will be staged in the city of Alexandria from July 9-18.

The 24th FIBA Asia U18 Championship is the qualifying event for the 2017 FIBA U19 World Championship, the venue for which will be decided soon. The top three teams from the 24th FIBA Asia U18 Championship will represent Asia at the 2017 FIBA U19 World Championship.
