2023 FIBA AfroCan teams drawn in four groups
The quadrennial FIBA AfroCan, a competition aimed to African players based on the continent of Africa, will take place in Angola between July 8 and 16.
KIGALI (Rwanda) - With less than a month to the second edition of the FIBA AfroCan, eight of the twelve participating teams found out their opponents on Friday during a draw ceremony in Maputo, Mozambique.
The quadrennial FIBA AfroCan, a competition aimed to African players based on the continent of Africa, will take place in Angola between July 8 and 16.
The draw distributed the 12 qualified teams into four groups of three teams each.
FIBA AfroCan reigning champions DR Congo were drawn in Group D alongside Mozambique and Cameroon.
Teams are drawn as follows:
In Group A, 2019 runners-up Kenya will take on Gabon. Group A will be complete with the winner of the playoff between Zone 2's Guinea and teams from Zones 3.
Hosts Angola will face Mali and a team to be attributed a wildcard in Group B.
Group C will be complete with Morocco and the winners of Zones 1 and 5 qualifiers.
Next week, Algeria and Tunisia will fight for Zone's 1 solo ticket for the Final Round and five teams will gather in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, later this month to find Zone 5's representative for the Angola showpiece.
QUALIFICATION TO THE QUARTER-FINALS
The winners of each group will advance directly to the Quarter-Finals while the teams that finish second and third after the Group Phase will play the qualification round for the Last Eight as follows:
A2 v B3
B2 v A3
C2 v D3
D2 v C3.
The winners will qualify for the Quarter-Finals.
FINAL PHASE
The winners of the Quarter-Final advance to Semi-Finals, while the losing teams will play the Classification Round games for the 5th to 8th places.
The classification game for Third-Place and the Final will be played on the last day of competition (July 16).
