Overview

The African Youth Championship known as the “FIBA U18 African Championship” is a competition played by 12 national youth teams of the Africa Regional Office of the International Basketball Federation.
The first edition of this championship, which brings together 12 teams, took place in 1977 in Cairo, Egypt and allowed the host country to win its first continental title.
To date, Nigeria is the most successful country with 6 crowns won in 21 editions.
Egypt and Angola follow with four to their name.
The championship is contested every two years and brings together the best young African players.
This year the competition will take place in Cairo, the Egyptian capital from december 3rd to 9 with only 5 national teams due to the Covid pandemic
The FIBA U18 African Championship 2020 will serve as a qualification for the 2021 FIBA U19 World Championship to be held from July 03 to 11 as the the best teams will be qualified.
