History made as Mali win their first-ever FIBA U16 African Championship title
PHOENIX, Mauritius (FIBA U16 African Championship 2017) - Mali claimed a first-ever FIBA U16 African Championship title after beating Egypt 76-65 in Saturday's Final in the Mauritius’ city of Vacoas-Phoenix.
Siriman Kanoute led the way with team-bests of 17 points and 9 assists in the winning cause.
On the other side, Egypt were paced by Momen Mohamed Hassan who poured in a game-high 22 points. His teammates Aly Khalifa and Omar Morsy combined for 33 points but it was not enough to seal the victory for their side.
Earlier in the day, Algeria claimed the last spot on the podium, after knocking off Tunisia, 57-54, in the 3rd-Place Game.
Kanoute was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, headlining the All-Star Five, where he was joined by Faiez Ghomrassi (Tunisia), Aly Abdelrahman Khalifa (Egypt), Thierry Nkundwa(Rwanda) and Oumar Ballo (Mali).
