Mini Basketball Seminars expanding to Africa

MIES (Switzerland) – Following a promising start in Spanish and Portuguese speaking Federations and the Oceania and Asian regions, and in collaboration with the FIBA Regional Office in Africa, the Mini Basketball virtual seminars are starting this week for French speaking Federations in Africa.

WABC Executive Committee Member Nour Amri along with various other facilitators will lead the seminar. One female and one male delegate from 14 National Federations will learn how to plan, monitor and develop a Mini Basketball Program that includes Basketball as a tool for social change. They will also learn how to transmit this knowledge to coaches and grow the social impact further.

The virtual seminars are the second step of the new Mini Basketball momentum initiated by the FIBA Foundation to promote and stimulated playful grassroots basketball for 5 – 12-year-olds of both genders.

As a first step, the Foundation held Mini Basketball Conventions in all regions of the world, educating on the importance of Mini Basketball as a grassroots movement and a tool to promote good health and well-being and game-based learning.

This second phase will give Mini Basketball delegates guidance to help them grow the Mini Basketball programs in their respective countries.

During the Seminar, the participants will learn the tools to grow the Mini Basketball movement and to help keep children active and healthy with fun and playful activities through practical and theoretical sessions. They will also build connections within the region.

A Mini Basketball Forum organized by the FIBA Regional Office in Africa in collaboration with the National Federation of Côte d’Ivoire will also take place from 10 to 15 August in Abidjan where Mini Basketball delegates will be able to see theory put into practice and work with kids on the court.

By the end of the year, the Virtual Seminar will be launched for English-speaking Federations in Africa.
