FIBA’s Foundation and Genius Sports announce extended partnership

LAUSANNE, Switzerland - Genius Sports, an award-winning sports data and technology company, and FIBA's Foundation, the International Basketball Foundation (IBF), have announced an extension of their long-standing partnership until 2019.

Alongside this strategic agreement, Genius Sports has also secured the non-exclusive rights to collect and distribute live data to the betting and media markets from more than 2,000 official games at FIBA events until 2017. These events include the 2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments and 2017 Continental Cups.

The extended partnership between the two parties sees Genius Sports become the 'Official FIBA Data and Statistics League and Federation Partner' for the next four years as it works closely with FIBA and the IBF to roll out its Sports Management Platform to National Federations.

The partnership dates back to 2005 and has seen FIBA and the subsidiary SportingPulse brand co-develop and distribute FIBA Organizer & FIBA LiveStats to basketball federations and leagues in 120 countries. FIBA LiveStats, a module of the Genius Sports Management Platform, is the world’s most popular basketball live statistics tool. It enables courtside capturing of live game statistics, live webcast publishing and reporting to coaches and media.

In 2016, the courtside technology will allow statisticians to accurately collect data from more than 35,000 games. This coverage will grow significantly as Genius Sports works with FIBA's regional offices around the world, including throughout Europe where, as of 2017, FIBA will transition users to the single official FIBA LiveStats solution.

The extended partnership will see national basketball federations and leagues continue to benefit as the FIBA LiveStats tool and associated services keep driving significant value in sport development and fan engagement. Genius Sports is also helping the likes of French Basketball Federation (FFBB) and Argentina's Association of Basketball Clubs monetise their LiveStats data through the execution of data rights agreements.

FIBA Secretary General and International Olympic Committee (IOC) Member Patrick Baumann said: "We are delighted to continue this exclusive collaboration with the newly-branded Genius Sports with respect to their statistical and competition management tools for federations and leagues globally. This agreement further demonstrates Genius Sports' commitment to service the FIBA family with the highest quality technology solutions in the market."

Genius Sports Chief Commercial Officer Nick Maywald said: "FIBA and the IBF are committed to the development of basketball around the world and we are proud to support this through a close partnership that has spanned more than 10 years. Sports technology and the creation, distribution and monetisation of data are central to any sports development strategy. We are delighted to announce this expanded agreement with FIBA and look forward to working with even more federations and leagues across the world to make basketball the most popular sports community."

IBF President and FIBA Honorary President Yvan Mainini said: "This new partnership goes beyond a pure technology partnership. It will help tremendously with the development of basketball on a global level, especially in countries with limited human and financial resources. The Foundation focuses especially on those members."
