Ferro Leaves Group A Unbeaten after Overpowering Fuerza Regia

MONTERREY (DIRECTV Liga de las Américas) - Group A of the eleventh edition of Liga de las Américas ended, although the two qualifying teams to the Semi-Finals were already determined. Ferro's triumph over hosts Fuerza Regia gave the Argentine team the first-place qualification to the next round.

They once again demonstrated an organized game in the offense, with rhythm control and the necessary amount of passes to seek good shooting opportunities. Like this, and with a solid defense, Ariel Rearte's team dominated the game practically since its start, and ended with a comfortable 85-72 score. Fuerza Regia tried to close in on the wide disadvantage that, when the half-time came, was already 19 points, but they couldn’t manage the same feat of the previous night.

Meanwhile, Ferro were missing their leading scorer, Aaron Harper, but Ignacio Alessio was once again the offense spearhead, with 18 points. This time around, Cosolito made an important contribution, also with 18 points. And, as always, the excellent leadership of Franco Balbi was essential (with 9 points and 7 assists). As for Fuerza Regia, Cameroonian player Benoit Mbala was the most outstanding, with 19 points.

At the day’s beginning, Soles de Mexicali bade the tournament farewell with at least the satisfaction of winning, 104-95, against Capitanes de Arecibo. The Mexican side had a quartet of outstanding scorers: Meyer, with 21 points; Flowers, with 20; Méndez and Sharpe, with 19 each. However, the highest scorer was De Jesús, with 23 points. Capitanes left Monterrey with three defeats in their luggage.

After the end of Group A, Liga de las Américas will continue on January 26 in Talca, Chile, with the participation of host team, Español; and San Lorenzo, from Argentina; as well as two Brazilian teams, Mogi and Paulistano.
