Ferro and Fuerza Regia Secure their Pass to Semis

MONTERREY (DIRECTV Liga de las Américas) - The second game day for Group A of Liga de las Américas ended with the first two qualifying teams for Semi-Finals, with the wins by Ferro and Fuerza Regia.

Ferro, in the first game, comfortably overcame Capitanes, 101-79, thus keeping its ideal score for both games. After an impressive start, with 15-0 in the first quarter, the Argentines built their victory with almost no inconveniences. Only a few responses by Capitanes suggested a balanced match, but Ariel Rearte’s players never let go of the game's control.

Just as in their first encounter, Ferro once again demonstrated good offensive contributions by Aaron Harper (with 22 points, the best scorer) and Ignacio Alessio (19 points), as well as a solid performance by point guard Franco Balbi (7 assists). For the uneventful Capitanes, Ricky Sánchez was the most prominent, with 17 points and 6 rebounds.

During the showdown between Mexican teams, Fuerza Regia recovered from an unfavorable performance during most of the game, and defeated Soles 85-84 in overtime. Soles proved their aggressive defense and how they take advantage of counterattacks. Yet, with the significant involvement in the offense by Denis Clemente, Fuerza Regia were able to come back from behind. And then, Cristian Cortés appeared and became a key figure in the game. First, with two free throws to equal the score during regular time and then, with a triple to win the game and give the home team the ticket to the Semi-Final.

Clemente's 32 points for Fuerza Regia and Soto's 21 points for Soles will be forgotten by everyone who watched this exciting clash between Mexican teams. The determined moves by Cortés stood out above any statistic.

Now, with Fuerza Regia and Ferro qualified for the tournament's next round, the only thing remaining is to define the places with which the Group Phase will come to a close, something that’s not of a lesser importance, because it may define future rivals.
