Social media reacts to Dillon Brooks' heroic turnaround

MANILA (Philippines) - Canada needed a hero. They got what they wished for in the one person everyone perceived as a villain.

Dillon Brooks stepped up in the Third-Place Game, tying the tournament-high of 39 points to help Canada get their first World Cup medal ever in an overtime win against USA.

Here's how social media reacted to the phenomenon.

It was an early game in North America. But the fans who tuned in were certainly not going to complain about what they witnessed.

Gotta love to see these fans enjoying an early serving of elite basketball.

Rise and Shine North America.

Locked in all game long (though Brooks did finish 7-8 from downtown).

A lot of fans seemed to love to see it here in Manila though, TK!

Brooks joins legendary company with this performance.

For those who have been watching the entire World Cup, you've heard how Brooks has been booed nearly every time he touched the ball. What a turnaround this has been.

While it was an awesome performance from Brooks, you can't forget that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was also just as good with 31 points, 6 rebounds, and 12 assists.

Bottom line: Dillon Brooks is now forever a Canadian hero.

Already looking forward to what Brooks will do next.

Hats off to you, Dillon. Take a bow.

So will we ontwerpy. So will we.

Cold.

 Listen and learn.

 ZERO slander from here.

We'll keep updating with any more fun or insightful reactions to Dillon Brooks' performance to win Canada a historic bronze medal!
