USA to face Puerto Rico and Canada to play Brazil in the FIBA Women's AmeriCup 2019 Semi-Finals

SAN JUAN (Puerto Rico) – USA defeated Brazil to secure first place of Group B and defined the Semi-Final games of the FIBA AmeriCup Women's 2019 Semifinals, that will be played this Saturday at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente de San Juan, Puerto Rico.

At the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2019, the USA will face the hosts and the defending champions, Canada, will face Brazil.

The team of the USA looked solid again and defeated Brazil 89-73.

The team coached by Dawn Staley dominated all the categories of the stats. Diamond De Shields, with 19 points, guided the attack of the USA, followed by veteran Tina Charles, who contributed 15 points and captured 10 rebounds.

For Brazil, Damiris Dantas and Erika De Souza, scored 16 and 13 points, respectively.

For its part, Colombia (2-2) needed two overtimes to defeat Argentina by 73-71 and took the third place of Group B.

A double from Yaneth Arias, with six seconds left on the clock, gave the definitive advantage to the Colombians. Argentina tried to respond, but it didn’t materialize.

Manuela Ríos was the best scorer for the Colombians with 17 points, in addition to seven assists. Arias left 14 points while capturing nine boards, Jenifer Múñoz added 13 points and Mabel Martínez achieved a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.

For Argentina, Débora González scored 16 and Agostina Burani 15, with 11 rebounds.

In Group A, Canada ratified its power and dominated the Dominican Republic, with a score of 78-50.

The Canadians, who had already secured the first place of the group and their qualification to the Semi-Finals, relied on the offense of Bridget Carleton and Jamie Scott, who produced 15 and 14 points, respectively. Kayla Alexander, as has been the custom in this tournament, also shone with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Marlem Cáceres, Sugeiry Monsac and Yohanna Morton, achieved nine points each, for the Dominican Republic.

Finally, the host, Puerto Rico, who also arrived on the day with their Semi-Final ticket secured, dispatched to Mexico 79-39.

The Puerto Ricans defended with intensity and on the other side of the field, they ran at pleasure. In the first half of the game, practically everything was sentenced when the host went to halftime with a 42-14 advantage.

Deanna Kuzmanic and India Pagán led the Puerto Rican attack with 12 points each. Jennifer O'Neill added 11 points. On the Mexican side, Gladys Avila reached 10 points.

This Saturday, Argentina will face the Dominican Republic for seventh place, Colombia will face Cuba for fifth place and in the Semi-Finals, Canada will face Brazil and USA will face Puerto Rico.
