Daily updates: FIBA U17 Women's Skills Challenge 2020
MIES (Switzerland) - The FIBA U17 Women's Skills Challenge 2020, taking place from August 18-23, features 16 national teams from across the globe competing for top honors.
While some teams qualified for the event directly, others had to go through Regional Qualifiers and will have a few more games under their belt ahead of the Global Challenge.

Day 5 - Sunday, August 23
China were crowned winners of the maiden FIBA U17 Women's Skills Challenge after coming out on top in a close-fought Final against the previously unbeaten Poland.
Having lost to Poland in the Group Phase, China avenged their defeat in the decider with a 118-119 scoreline after a down-to-the-wire finish. On their way to the title, China also knocked out Italy and Lithuania in the previous rounds of the Knock-Out Phase.
With an average score of 21.5 in the title-winning run, China's Li Qingyang was named the Tissot MVP of the FIBA U17 Women's Skills Challenge.
Spain claimed third place after topping Lithuania 130-163 in Sunday's only other matchup.

Day 4 - Saturday, August 22
There are only two candidates left in the race for the first-ever FIBA U17 Women's Skills Challenge title, with China and Poland defeating their respective opponents in the Semi-Finals to set up an intercontinental duel for the throne on Sunday.
After registering the best score in the Quarter-Finals, China were on the front foot in the Semi-Finals as well, topping Lithuania 122-153. Meanwhile, Poland got the better of Spain in the other Semi-Final matchup, topping their European rivals 129-134.
The Final between China and Poland will not be the only challenge that takes place on Sunday, with Lithuania and Spain set to play for third-place.

Day 3 - Friday, August 21
The FIBA U17 Women's Skills Challenge entered the Final Four phase with China at top of the totem pole, advancing to the Semi-Finals with the best score among all Quarter-Final teams.
The only non-European team among the four national teams left in the competition, China eliminated the previously undefeated Italy with a 113-124 scoreline to book a date with Lithuania in the Semi-Finals after the Baltic side saw off Egypt in a nail-biting 142-143 encounter.

On the other side of the bracket, Poland and Spain will battle it out for a place in the Final. Poland took care of business against Luxembourg (135-142), while Spain outclassed Thailand, 124-136.

Day 2 - Wednesday, August 19
European sides continued to excel at the FIBA U17 Women's Skills Challenge, topping the standings in all four groups as the competition switches to Knock-Out mode.
The quartet of Italy, Lithuania, Poland and Spain advanced as the group winners, with Poland setting a best score in the competition with 113 in their Group D duel against Cameroon.
Entering the Quarter-Finals with confidence, Poland will face off against Luxembourg, who bested Puerto Rico for second place in Group C. Meanwhile, the other side of the cross-over will feature Group C winners Italy and second-seeded China from Group D.

The remaining Knock-Out Phase pairings will have Group A winners Lithuania playing Egypt, and Group B table-toppers Spain meeting Thailand.

Day 1 - Tuesday, August 18
It was a day to remember for European national teams, as Lithuania, Spain, Italy and Poland posted perfect scores on the first day of action at the FIBA U17 Women's Skills Challenge 2020.
Having set the best score in the Regional Qualifiers with a 121-point performance in one of the challenges, Poland stepped it up even further in the Group Phase of the Global Challenge with 117 points against China en route to a 2-0 start in Group D.
In the same group, China got a potentially all-important head-to-head tiebreaker against Cameroon after topping their immediate rivals in a close matchup.

Elsewhere, Italy kept it neat and tidy with two wins in Group C, as they whizzed Lebanon and Luxembourg, while Lithuania and Spain also scored a pair of opening day wins in Groups A and B, respectively.
