Mali close Group Phase with win over Uganda

YAOUNDE (AfroBasket Women 2015) - Mali improved their AfroBasket Women 2015 Group A mark to 4-1, beating lowly Uganda 73-55 on Tuesday in Yaounde, Cameroon.

Turning Point: Mali, who played without influential Meiya Tirera due to a sore knee, never trailed, having led by as many as 22 points.

Kankou Coulibaly sparked Mali with 19 points, while Flavia Oketcho finished a team-high 16 points in the losing cause.

Stats Don't Lie: Uganda are making their reappearance in the tournament since 1997, and game after game it becomes evident that there is a lot of work to be done with regard to basketball fundamentals. Ball handling has been a worrying issue for Uganda, and against Mali they turned the ball over 33 times. And making only 4 of 12 free-throws (33 percent) made things even worse for coach Timothy Odeke's team.

Game Hero: Coulibaly insists she is yet to find her form in the tournament, but leading this Mali side in scoring as she did against Uganda is not an easy task.

Bottom Line: Mali stepped on floor in a winning mode dominating throughout the entire contest. As Mali head to the Quarter-Finals with a 4-1 mark, Uganda will play the remaining of the competing battling for their possible best position on the 9th to 12th place.
Whatever Cameroon's result later on Tuesday, Mali close out their Group Phase second in the group to take on the team that finishes third in Group B.
