Spain hit special landmark as they land a tenth title
UDINE (FIBA U16 Women's European Championship 2016) – Spain have wrapped up a stunning tenth title at the FIBA U16 Women's European Championship after inflicting a 64-48 loss on first-time Finalists Germany.
Turning Point: Spain had an epic couple of minutes in the middle of the third quarter when they pushed their foot down hard on the accelerator. They posted a 10-2 run which gave them a 45-32 lead and effectively snapped the game wide open. It was a run that included a huge three-pointer by Maria Torreblanca and a gorgeous ‘And-1’ play by Laura Piera.
Stats Don't Lie: For all the talk about Germany’s frontcourt rotation, Spain did the business under the basket in a big way by posting a massive 38 points in the paint.
Game Heroes: As usual, it was a team effort from Spain with plenty of key contributions. Ainhoa Lacorzana didn’t shoot the ball well, but still proved the driving force, recording 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals to go with the defensive side of her game. It was mainly Maria Torreblanca and Maria Pendande who stood out. The former shot 4-of-5 from the floor for 10 points, while Pendande had 11 points and 7 rebounds.
