Basketball Federation of Trinidad and Tobago announce launch of FIBA PLUS Strategy and Planning program

COUVA (Trinidad and Tobago) - The National Basketball Federation of Trinidad and Tobago (NBFTT) is happy to announce the launch of their FIBA PLUS Strategy and Planning Program. The program, a pilot project delivered by FIBA, is designed to assist National Federations in the development of basketball in their countries by helping them to create a sustainable strategic focus.

The FIBA PLUS Strategy and Planning program is one of the initiatives undertaken by FIBA, as part of its 2019-2027 long-term strategy, to "Empower National Federations" to reach their full potential.

This initiative is a tailor-made program for the NBFTT with the aim to put in place correct strategies for its specific needs to improve the Federation's capacity to organize, professionalize and commercialize its basketball activities, ensuring the game's successful development in Trinidad and Tobago.

After discussions with the NBFTT and its external stakeholders to better understand how the federation works, the environment in which it operates, and its goals, FIBA will first support the NBFTT to help complete its 'Situation Analysis'. This analysis will provide information for the NBFTT Board Members to consider when defining their future focus and developing their plan, and provide necessary performance baselines and benchmarks which the federation can use to measure its future growth and progress.

Throughout the FIBA PLUS Strategy and Planning Program, the NBFTT will define goals, develop SMART objectives and detailed action plans for the next 18 to 24 months. FIBA will support the federation along the way with strong mentoring, workshops and tailored assistance. A monitoring process will also be used to re-evaluate the NBFTT strategy regularly to ensure it's still right for the needs of the federation. All workshop sessions will be conducted via videoconference.

NBFTT President Claire Mitchell said: "The Basketball Federation of Trinidad and Tobago and FIBA have started the strategy and planning journey and we are very excited about what this project means as we plan to navigate our sport through the new normal. My colleagues and I wish to express our heartfelt thanks to FIBA for the opportunity offered to our Federation.  This will undoubtedly boost basketball in Trinidad and Tobago and help contribute to making our beloved sport the most popular sports community worldwide."

FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis said: "FIBA has devoted its main focus for 2019-2027 to the development of National Federations as they are the foundation of our sport and a key driver of basketball development in each country. Our pilot project will provide the Basketball Federation of Trinidad and Tobago with a high level of expertise and knowledge and practical guidance on each step of their planning process. FIBA greatly appreciates every stakeholder's participation and contribution throughout this journey, and I look forward to seeing the progress of the NBFTT in the near future."
