2024 Hall of Fame Class: Reggie Miller

MIES (Switzerland) - Reggie Miller is a FIBA Basketball World Cup winner, an Olympic gold medalist, a long-time NBA superstar, the greatest player ever to don the Indiana Pacers jersey, and a member of the 2024 Class of the FIBA Hall of Fame.

Miller was a star in the first USA World Cup team consisting only of NBA players in 1994

For those lucky enough to have watched him play, there are unforgettable memories.

He had a flair for the dramatic, especially in the many Eastern Conference play-off games that he took center stage in, and usually against the New York Knicks.

Miller, who went into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012, was synonymous with the word clutch.

One of the performances that he turned in and made him an NBA icon was in 1994. Indiana and the New York Knicks squared off in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals and Miller (pictured below) lit up Madison Square Garden with an eye-popping 25 points in the fourth quarter and 39 overall. The Pacers won, 93-86, to take a 3-2 lead in the series.

The Knicks never stopped Miller, who had led all scorers with 27 points in Game 6 and 25 in Game 7, yet they edged the Pacers to reach the NBA Finals.

Miller did make it to the NBA Finals in 2000, but the Lakers prevailed over his Pacers in six games.

With Miller in the lineup, the Indiana were a captivating, riveting must-watch team in his 18 years in the league. He led the Pacers to five Eastern Conference Finals from 1994 to 2000.

He helped make Indiana one the best clubs in a spectacular era for the NBA. He regularly squared off against Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls and Patrick Ewing of the New York Knicks, amongst others.

USA Basketball put Miller in their team for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 1994 in Toronto when the Americans put a team of NBA players on the court in the competition for the first time and went on to have an awesome tournament.

Miller shot a scalding 52.6 percent (30 of 57) from three-point range and averaged 17.1 points as the USA marched to the title.

Reggie was a leader in one of the greatest USA teams of all time at the 1994 World Cup in Toronto

Miller two years later took his talent and aura to the Olympics and helped the Americans win the gold medal. He was also in the team 2002 FIBA Basketball World Cup team that hosted the event in Indianapolis in 2002, though injuries limited his participation.

Miller, whose No. 31 has been retired by both the Indiana Pacers and UCLA Bruins, played in five NBA All-Star Games. When he retired from the game in 2005, Miller held the NBA record for most career three-point field goals made with an astonishing 2,560.

He is being enshrined in the Class of 2024 which includes Miao Lijie (China), Danira Nakic-Bilic (Croatia), Kirk Samuel Penney (New Zealand), Romain Sato (Central African Republic), Skaidrite Smildzina-Budovska (Latvia), Predrag Stojakovic (Serbia), and Daniel Lowell Peterson (USA).
