Teams from Africa and Asia clinch first spots at the FIBA U15 Skills Challenge 2021

MIES (Switzerland) - 14 of the 32 berths at the FIBA U15 Skills Challenge 2021 have been confirmed after the conclusion of the first two Regional Qualifiers.

Cameroon, Egypt, Guinea, Madagascar, Morocco and Tunisia advanced from the African Qualifiers, while Australia, China, Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, Mongolia, New Zealand and Syria all progressed from the Asian Qualifiers.

In Africa, the top two in each of the three groups qualified with Egypt, Madagascar and Tunisia all going unbeaten in their respective contests as Guinea, Cameroon and Morocco came through as runners-up.

Madagascar recorded the best score over the course of the five days with 110 points in their win against Angola with Tunisia's perfect record maintained with a tense 138-142 success over Zambia in the closest contest.

Iran and Mongolia were a perfect four wins from four in Asia, while China edged out Syria to the top spot in Group C and Jordan pipped Australia to win Group B. New Zealand and Lebanon also had to settle for second place as they made it through.

Mongolia impressed with an Asian Qualifiers-best score of 111 points on two separate occasions, while China and Syria played out a thrilling 124-124 draw with Syria edging the tie-breaker, though they would ultimately miss out on the top spot.

Eight more places will be taken from the American Qualifiers that take place from May 5-9, 2021 before the final 10 spots will be decided at the European Qualifiers from May 12-16, 2021.
