All you need to know: FIBA U16 European Championship 2023, Division C

PRISHTINA (Kosovo) - The FIBA U16 European Championship, Division C is one of 16 youth events that will take place across the summer of 2023.

The tournament will take place in Prishtina, Kosovo from July 19-27, 2023.

Who is participating?

A total of nine teams will compete for the title in Division C. They have been split into two groups of four and five teams. The Group Phase is as follows.

Group A: Andorra, Kosovo, Malta, Gibraltar
Group B: Albania, Cyprus, Armenia, San Marino, Azerbaijan

What is the schedule?

The Group Phase will take place across five days with a rest day on July 22 before the competition moves onto the Semi-Finals on July 26. The Final will take place on July 27, with the final Classification games also determining each of the nine positions.

Who were the winners in 2022?

Andorra reclaimed the title with an 84-65 success against Armenia behind a pivotal late run of 19 unanswered points. Cerni Vinas top scored with 19 points, while Joan Aguilar posted a strong double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds in the win.

Andorra return to defend their title with Armenia and Albania also contending for the title.

Former MVPs

Gregory Moghoyan earned tournament MVP honors, despite Armenia being unable to repeat their 2017 triumph. The 2006-born prospect averaged 21.2. points and 5.4 assists per game in helping his side to the Final.

Roll of honor

Andorra claimed their fourth title in 2022 to add the titles they won in 2004, 2011 and 2018. That triumph took them past three-time winners Cyprus, who last won the competition in 2016 on home soil. Meanwhile, Luxembourg and Scotland each have two titles to their name.
