Maccabi Bnot Ashdod piling talent high with Doron and Abdi

ASHDOD (EuroCup Women 2017) – Having already assembled a high quality roster for this season’s return to EuroCup Women, Maccabi Bnot Ashdod have made two more stellar signings with the addition of Shay Doron and Farhiya Abdi.

The re-signing of Israel national team standout and some would argue a legend in Doron, is a huge deal. The free-scoring guard has regularly been the main contributor for club and country, helping Ashdod land silverware last season.

Doron has also played with the likes of UMMC Ekaterinburg in EuroLeague Women and a number of EuroBasket Women Final Round tournaments.

Meanwhile Swedish ace Abdi has EuroLeague Women and WNBA court time to her name and arrives via a season in Turkish basketball last season. She has played in EuroLeague Women with BK Imos Brno, Good Angels Kosice and Wisla Can-Pack, while also featuring briefly in EuroCup Women earlier in her career with 08 Stockholm. Throw in her minutes in the WNBA with the Los Angeles Sparks and Sweden national team and Maccabi have signed a forward with great experience – despite still only being 25-years-old.

With Abdi and Doron now in their ranks, many will feel they might just be favourites in Group A of Conference 1 where they are scheduled to meet Hoptrans Sirenos, Sparta&K M.R. Vidnoje and either Enisey Krasnoyarsk Region or VBW Cekk Cegled who play in a qualifier.
