Braine earn first road win, Galatasaray return to winning ways
MUNICH (EuroLeague Women) - Galatasaray ended a run of consecutive defeats, while Castors Braine pulled off an impressive win in Prague for their first road win.
A week after picking up their first win in this season's competition, Braine were quick to double their tally as they took down ZVVZ USK Praha 67-68 away from home.
DeWanna Bonner starred for Praha with 22 points and 15 rebounds as the hosts came from 8 down to lead 67-64 with 2:10 remaining.
However, Braine had the final say as they kept their opponents scoreless for the conclusion and it was a pair of clutch free-throws from Olesia Malashenko that proved decisive.
"There are surprising results every week and this week, it was our turn to make a statement," said Antonia Delaere.
"Our zone defense with three big players put them in trouble. Even when Prague came back, we kept our principles and played as a team."
Galatasaray bounced back from a humbling defeat last week as they held off ESBVA-LM for a 69-64 success to move to a 4-3 record. Olivia Epoupa produced an all-round display with 18 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists in the win.
Meanwhile, Bourges Basket overturned a double-digit deficit to beat Sopron Basket 76-65 for their second group win. The home side trailed 10-21 after the opening period and gradually battled back before an emphatic final quarter.
An 18-2 start to the fourth swung the momentum in favour of Bourges with Valeriyane Ayayi finishing with 23 points and 9 boards.
Yakin Dogu Universitesi needed a strong second-half performance to overcome Nadezhda in a 76-81 road triumph with Kayla McBride leading the way with 24 points.
Dynamo Kursk maintained their perfect record as they eased to a 70-98 win away at CCC Polkowice. Maria Vadeeva top-scored with 18 points with four other players hitting double figures in their seventh straight success.
Two sides improved to 5-2 records in Group B with UMMC Ekaterinburg dominant in their 100-46 victory against BLMA, while Fenerbache came out on top against Wisla CANPACK for an 87-78 triumph.
Aerial Powers led the Turkish side to victory with 21 points and 10 rebounds with Ayse Cora and Anastasiya Verameyenka adding 16 points apiece.
