Drama continues as Spar Girona and Lattes-Montpellier both win thrillers

MUNICH (Germany) - It turned out to be a dramatic week of EuroCup Women action as Spar Girona and Lattes-Montpellier extended the drama by both taking thrilling road wins on Thursday night.

Their close and hard fought victories were typical of a week that proved to be a super advert for the competition with a number of exciting and nerve-tingling contests.

- Double drama: Spar Girona edge thriller at Gorzow,  Lattes-Montpellier win by a point at Gernika;
- Caledonia Gladiators and Eleftheria Moschatou record landmark first Regular Season wins on Wednesday night;
- Galatasaray Cagdas Factoring take dramatic one-point win at Union Feminine Angers.

Thursday, October 19

Spar Girona came out on top in a pulsating 77-75 win at InvestInTheWest Enea Gorzow after Regan Magarity showed out with a spectacular 25 points and 17 rebounds. Fittingly the Swedish forward capped a superb effort by coming up with a game-winning block in the last seconds to deny her opponents from forcing overtime.


Lattes-Montpellier had an even closer and gripping encounter with Lointek Gernika Bizkaia and they returned back across the French and Spanish border with a 70-69 victory. They had to survive a last gasp triple attempt from Crystal Bradford to get the win. but they survived after being paced by 18 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks from Kyara Linskens. 

Elsewhere on Thursday, there were mixed fortunes for other French teams, with Tango Bourges Basket winning 70-59 at TANY KP Brno, while Roche Vendee crashed 86-48 at Emlak Konut SK. Meanwhile Belgian side Kangoeroes Mechelen impressed by beating Besiktas 83-74 behind 25 points from Laure Resimont, plus 16 points and 10 boards from Catherine Reese.

Wednesday, October 18

The drama was flowing as Galatasaray Cagdas Factoring emerged from French soil clutching a nerve-shredding 71-70 triumph at Union Feminine Angers after another monumental display by Myisha Hines-Allen.


The powerhouse delivered again to secure the Group C success after amassing a stellar 29 points and 11 rebounds to help her team escape with a victory, also helped by a huge triple in crunch time by Belgian ace, Julie Vanloo.

There were celebrations for British side Caledonia Gladiators who wasted no time in making history by coming out on top in their first ever game in the competition. It was a night that will never be forgotten as they soared past SL Benfica 73-52 in Group G. It was Mali guard Djeneba N'Diaye who excelled with 19 points as Caledonia dominated the second half.

Eleftheria Moschatou are also celebrating that same landmark and the fact that their maiden success was an edge of the seat 70-68 affair against Zabiny Brno made it all the more memorable. Caitin Bickle certainly had herself a game as she came up with an excellent 21 points and 11 boards.

Elsewhere, there was more thrilling action and close calls as Panathinaikos won 67-63 at Slavia Banska Bystrica, while another towering show of 29 points and 15 rebounds helped Antalya BSB Toroslar BC edge out BBC Grengewald 74-73.

Tuesday, October 17

A scorching opening and great work from from Kyra Lambert and Margaux Claveau took TTT Riga to a 77-68 victory in the Greek capital. Lambert almost entered triple-double territory with 17 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists, while Claveau shot the lights out with 6 of 8 from downtown in an 18 point haul.

Movistar Estudiantes are also flawless and sitting in pole position in Group K after they shifted through the gears and overturned a 12-point deficit at home to TARR KSC Szekszard to ink an 83-69 success.
