Meesseman rises above the competition to take Quarter-Final Top Performer Honors
PRAGUE (FIBA EuroBasket Women 2017) - With an efficiency rating of 43 in Belgium's commanding victory over Italy, Emma Meesseman was without competition for Quarter-Final Top Performer Honors on Thursday.
The up-and-coming Belgian forward again worked in perfect tangent with Ann Wauters, the elder stateswoman drawing extra attention, allowing Meesseman to further blossom.
The 24-year-old responded, scoring 28 points, picking up 11 boards, as well as adding 5 assists and 5 blocks.
On a historical night for Greece, who like Belgium booked a maiden spot in the Semi-Finals, two players in particular stood out.
Veteran Evanthia Maltsi was again the main talking point for the Greeks, the 38-year-old producing 25 points and 10 rebounds.
Her backcourt partner Lolita Lymoura had her most influential game of the tournament to date, with 7 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists - coming just shy of recording the tournament's first triple-double.
Hardly an evening goes by that Spanish wing Alba Torrens' name does not come up and indeed, that was the case again on Thursday. The 27-year-old put in another constructive performance, recording 20 points and 9 rebounds.
It is a similar story when it comes to Cecilia Zandalasini and the Italian star continued to breathe fire in this sparkling debut tournament. Although her 23 points and 8 rebounds were not enough to stave off a loss to Belgium.
