IBIRAPUERA (2006 FIBA World Championship for Women) - Lithuania won the battle of the boards in their convincing victory over Argentina on Sunday.

The Baltic country, thrashed by Brazil 24 hours earlier, pulled away from the Argentinians in their Group E eight-finals showdown in the second half, out-rebounding their South American opponents 47-25 in the game.

Thirteen of those boards were hauled down by 34-year-old forward Jurgita Streimikyte, who also had a game-high 20 points.

It wasn't until the second half that Lithuania took control.

They led 32-24 at half-time but Argentina fought hard and closed the gap to 34-31 nearly four minutes into the third quarter when Maria Gimena Landra made one of two free throws.

    Argentina would get no closer.

Streimikyte replied with a lay-up and then a jump shot and the Lithuanians finished the third quarter ahead 43-34.

They pressed home their advantage in the fourth to hand the Argentinians, who edged Canada on Saturday, their heaviest defeat of the competition.
