COTE D'IVOIRE
FIBA AFRICA CHAMPIONSHIP 2009, MEN
TEAM CHARACTERISTICS
Quick and athletic team that plays hard and maximizes ability. Game is based on speed and playing from baseline to baseline. Likes a fast tempo game over half court game. Very good in open floor and causes turnovers with their aggressive defense. Like to spread the court of offense and drive into gaps all the way to the basket.
TRANSITION

The open floor allows them to use quickness and driving ability to beat the defense down the floor. Posts run floor well and rebound misses for second shot opportunties. All perimeter players will pull up for three pointer off break.
OFFENSIVE TENDENCIES

Offensive game plan is based around spacing and penetration. Ball reversal and player movement create gaps in the defense that can be exposed. Make good use of on ball screens to get to rim or screen and roll plays. Scoring comes from transition, second shots, and penetration.
SET PLAYS
ZONE OFFENSE

Their offensive philosophy of spreading the floor applies to zone offense also. Make use of on ball screens, post flashes, and baseline lob plays. Penetration is the key to making plays against the zone.
OB PLAYS

Box and stack sets are used. Flashing into gaps create baskets on baseline OB plays.
DEFENSIVE CHARACTERISTICS

Combine man to man and 2-3 zone and apply good pressure to the ball. Will trap, reach and gamble for steals to start their transition game. Will apply full court pressure and trap on the sideline and at half court. Use length and athletic ability to disrupt offenses by trapping the post and forcing loose balls.
