Everything you need to know for BCL Americas' second group stage
MIAMI (United States) – The second stage of Basketball Champions League Americas Season 3 kicks off on Friday 28 of January. Teams will now look to improve from their performances in the first stage in December to stay in the top two of their respective groups and earn a spot into the Final 8.
Here's all you need to know before the second group stage tips off.
What are the current standings?
Group B is led by undefeated Sao Paulo, followed by Quimsa with an even 1-1 record while Nacional seeks a win in the group despite two close losses in the first stage that dropped them to 0-2.
Minas sits atop Group C with a 2-0 record, followed by Bigua at 1-1 and Obras closing out the group at 0-2.
Group D is led by reigning BCLAmericas champion CR Flamengo going undefeated, while Boca Juniors are 1-1 and Basket UdeC are 0-2.
Finally, Cangrejeros lead Group A with a 2-0 record, followed by Edmonton Stingers splitting the previous window 1-1. Esteli sits at 0-2, still looking for their first win in the group. The clubs in Group A will play their group stage at a later announced date.
Where is the second stage being played?
The second stage of the bubble format will take place in two locations. Group B and Group C will be playing in the same location, with all six teams taking turns playing at Antel Arena in Montevido, Uruguay as Bigua and Nacional both play host for this stage. Group D will be hosted by Boca Juniors, playing out of Estadio Luis Conde in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Due to restrictions on travel and capacity in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Group A’s second stage has been postponed.
Which games in the second stage are must-see?
Sunday, Jan. 30 Boca Juniors will host Flamengo at home, looking to not only take down the current BCLAmericas champion but also will hope to go 2-0 in the second stage at home and claim the top spot in Group D heading into the final stage of group play.
Monday, Jan. 31 Nacional will look for their first win while hosting top ranked Sao Paulo FC, playing the late night slot looking to avenge their 98-73 loss in the first stage of group play.
Wednesday, Feb. 2 Bigua hosts Minas as Group C’s final game of the second stage, as the two teams sit in first and second in Group C with Bigua looking to upset the top seed and move into a comfortable spot in the group.
