Puerto Rican star power present in 23-player pool for Panama and Argentina match-ups

SAN JUAN (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Americas Qualifiers) – The Puerto Rican Basketball Federation (FBPUR) announced the 23-player pool available for Head Coach Eddie Casiano looking ahead to Puerto Rico’s key match-ups against Panama and Argentina during the September window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Americas Qualifiers.

Puerto Rico closed-out the first phase of Americas Qualifiers with victories over Cuba and Mexico in sold-out games and will now head to the next round with a 4-2 record.

Jose Juan Barea was fundamental in the team’s victories during the third window of the Qualifiers with averages of 13.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 7.0 assists after the two games, now the Mayaguez native will once again be available for Casiano during the next window of the Qualifiers.

Gian Clavell, Ricardo Sanchez, Angel Rodriguez, Jorge Bryan Diaz and Ramon Clemente, who have perfect attendance for Puerto Rico during the Qualifiers, are also included in the pool.

After great performances in the 2018 edition of the Puerto Rican National League (BSN) Kyle Vinales, Jonathan Rodriguez and Christopher Brady were included in the preliminary list for the first time.

The “12 Magnificos” will begin their preparation with individual sessions, as the players finish their participation with their respecting clubs and teams. On September 8, the team will begin team practices under the watchful eyes of Eddie Casiano and his coaching staff.

Puerto Rico will host the Panamanian squad on September 14 at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan. The Boricuas will then travel to Formosa to face Argentina on September 17.
