BRA - Zanon reveals line-up for key preparation tournaments

SAO PAULO (FIBA World Championship for Women) - Brazil coach Luiz Augusto Zanon has announced a squad of 14 players for both the South American Championship for Women next month and an extensive European tour which will serve as the main plank of preparation ahead of the FIBA World Championship for Women in Turkey.

The play-caller has already taken his players to Edmonton where they played Canada in a three-game series and as time ticks down to stepping out in Ankara, Zanon is now preparing to crank up the intensity of his team's work in the lead up to the prestigious event.

"We will start work on awareness and philosophy which will be aimed at the South American Championship in Ecuador and the FIBA World Championship for Women in Turkey," he said.

"We have called on a group that we have already evaluated and that we believe can defend those commitments for Brazil.

"It will be a period of intensive training until the start of the games.

"I'm sure the girls will represent Brazil very well," he added.

The South American Championship for Women takes place between 14-18 August in the city of Ambato, Ecuador and the players will then travel to Europe where they will feature in two tournaments.

The first will take place in Istanbul between 22-24 of August against hosts Turkey, Australia and Canada, with the second one in the French city of Limoges the following week (28-30 August) and will see them take on home side France, Angola and Mozambique.

Zanon has chosen a couple of veteran players including Adriana Pinto and also plenty of rising stars such as Isabela Ramona, as he looks to find his best blend for the nine roster spots realistically on offer for Turkey.

The WNBA trio of Damiris Dantas, Erika Souza and Nadia Colhado will all be back in early September, when their commitments in the USA draw to an end.

At the FIBA World Championship for Women, Brazil will take on the Czech Republic, Japan and Spain in Ankara's Group A.
