FIBA U19 Women's World Cup 2023; All-Second Team, Best Coach and Defensive Player Awards

MADRID  (Spain) - A new set of awards were handed out at the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup 2023 including the Best Defensive Player, Best Coach, and the the All-Second Team.of the tournament.

The same awards were announced last year at the FIBA Basketball's Women World Cup 2022 and have been extended to both of FIBA's U19 youth competitions.

The FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup 2023 All-Second Team included Awa Fam of Spain, Syla Swords of Canada, Maimouna Haidara of Mali, Jana Elalfy of Egypt and Dominka Paurova of Czech Republic.

Powerhouse Fam was a constant menace in the paint for opposing defenders and helped Spain almost topple the USA in a classic Final matchup. Across the tournament she averaged 10,7 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. 

Swords came to the party for Canada with a stunning display in the Third Place game to help deliver bronze and finished the tournament with 15.0 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. 

Haidara was exceptional throughout as she inspired a fifth place finish for the African nation. She led the tournament in efficiency with a performance valuation of 24.6 per game, while also contributing a competition double-double of 15.9 points and 13.0 rebounds. She also handed out 3.1 assists and had more steals than any other players with 4.4 per outing. 

Jana Elalfy also put up huge numbers to finish as the leading scorer in Madrid with 21.4 points per game, also adding an eye-catching 11.0 rebounds. 

Paurova produced an all-action tournament for Czech Republic with 17.4 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.0 steals per game. 

Anaelle Dutat was named as the Best Defensive Player after averaging 9.0 points, 12.6 rebounds and 3.6 steals per game for fourth-placed France. 

The Best Coach award went to Bernat Canut Font of host nation Spain. The playcaller guided his team second place, only losing once in the thrilling title matchup and winning an army of fans for the way his team played throughout the tournament.
