USA inflict heartbreak on brave Belgium to set up Final showdown with Gems

BANGKOK (Thailand) - There was almost a huge upset in the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup 2019 Semi-Finals as Belgium gave favorites USA a real scare.

The Europeans, who have already made history by reaching the last four of the tournament, led USA inside the last few minutes of the game after a great comeback, but were eventually beaten 67-59

The dynamic Maxuella Lisowa Mbaka was sensational for Belgium and finished the contest with 21 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 steals, but the overall depth of USA got it done.

Rhyne Howard and Paige Bueckers made big plays during crunch time, while Aliyah Boston stood out with a smart 12 points, plus some super defensive work which resulted in 7 rebounds, 4 blocks and 2 steals.

USA will finish their campaign in the Thai capital as they started it - with a game against Australia, who outlasted Spain 64-55 in the other Semi-Final.

Australia ended a wait of more than two decades to make it back to the title game, relying on an all-action effort from Jaz Shelley who added 12 points, 6 assists, 4 steals and 4 rebounds. There was also 14 points in 14 minutes from Shyla Heal who was a perfect 3 of 3 from downtown.
