Did You Know?

  • United States have won more FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup titles (eight) than the rest of the world combined. Seven countries other than the United States have captured one crown.
  • France won their first ever silver medal at the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup. Their previous best showings were third place in 2007 and 2019.
  • Third placed finishers Canada have now won medals in two of the last three U19 World Cups - along with the title in 2017 - after never previously reaching the podium.
  • John Harper Jr. of Japan secured the fourth triple-double in U19 World Cup history since 1995, joining Dario Saric Croatia 2013 (32p 12r 12a v KOR); Nikita Mikhailovskii Russia 2019 (20p 13r 12a v GRE) and Guo Haowen CHN 2019 (34p 11r 11a v PUR).

  • Canada head coach Paul Weir was an assistant coach on the Canadian team that beat United States in the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2017 Semi-Finals. USA and Canada will face off in the 2021 Semi-Finals.
  • France have won four of the five U19 World Cup matchups with Lithuania, including the 2019 3rd Place Game. Lithuania's only win came in the 1995 Semi-Finals.

  • Yeo Jun Seok scored 38.2 percent of Korea's points in the Group Phase (65 of 170), the highest percentage by any player in the competition - by a large margin. The second-highest percentage was Aaron Clark with 27.0 percent (57 of 211) of Puerto Rico's points.
  • Serbia have out-scored their opponents 136-84 in the second half of their three Group Phase games.
  • United States have now won 11 straight games at the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup and 34 of the last 35 dating back to their 2011 Quarter-Finals loss to Russia. The only defeat between was to Canada in 2017 Semi-Finals.
  • Iran won their first youth competition game against Puerto Rico after having lost to the FIBA Americas team in the only other match-up in the U19 World Cup in 2003.

  • Spain beat France for the first time at the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup. Despite 54 previous matchups at the youth level on the continental and global levels, France's 2007 Quarter-Finals win over Spain was the only previous game between these two European powers in U19 World Cup history.
  • The game between hosts Latvia and Iran was the first-ever official matchup of these nations at any level - youth or senior. The Latvian and Iranian senior teams did face off in an exhibition game in June 2016 in Riga.
  • The last time United States and Mali faced off in this competition was the Final of the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2019, which the Americans won while Mali made history with the greatest result for an African team in a FIBA global event.
  • United States improved to 5-0 all-time in U19 World Cup games played on the country's Independence Day (July 4).
